Childless couples prefer it for building their family even though they know it doesn’t guarantee having a healthy child. Females, who take care of their pregnancy calendar, emotions, and allied things, think to give up on IVF when they have multiple failure IVF cycles. You may have this idea in your mind after meeting or knowing the experience of some females who have recently gone through IVF treatments. Before you make any decision, you should think about the associated aspects. Keep going through the post.

Why are IVF treatments not working on you?/Why have you failed IVF cycles?

IVF treatment success differs from one female to another and depends on several factors. Your reasons for failed IVF will be different from other women. You have failed IVF due to the following points:

  • Arrest of embryos
  • Age
  • Egg quality & quantity
  • Egg retrieval skills
  • Infertility causes
  • Uterine issues
  • Genetic and chromosomal problems
  • Number of the retrieved eggs

How many IVF cycles should you have?

Experts have done numerous studies on the number of IVF cycles a female should try to build her family. These studies differ in their outcomes and suggest different ideas. A study of the New England Journal of Medicine states that 9 cycles are enough and no patient or doctor should exceed it. In the regard of ideal IVF cycles, the study suggests that 2 to 4 cycles are enough for a female with her own eggs.  No one, except a fertility specialist or gynaecologist/obstetrician, can advise you on the number of IVF cycles you should try.

IVF treatment success rates

In general, IVF success differs from one region to another, one community to another, a clinic to another, and one patient to another. Its success is higher for younger females, usually under 35. The success rate goes down with the old females. Here is a glimpse of IVF treatment success rates:

  • Females under 35 – 31%
  • Females aged 35 to 37 – 24%
  • Women aged 38 to 40 – 16%
  • Women aged 41 to 44 – 8%
  • Females above 45 – 3%

Other available options

You can give up your IVF treatment. However, most of you don’t want to give up your hope of having a child. And you will try as far as possible for you. Before you decide to give up on IVF, you should think a lot about what options you will have after that. The probable options after IVF failure for you are as follows:

  • Adoption
  • Donor sperm
  • Donor eggs
  • Donor embryos
  • Surrogacy

Before you go with any option, you should interact with your doctor. During the interaction, you should talk to each aspect of an option and request the expert to state what option will be better for you.

When should you give up on IVF?

No one, except you, can answer this question for you. And before you move to make a final decision on leaving IVF treatments, you should honestly answer the following queries for you:

  • Do you want to have a genetic connection with your baby?
  • Do you value the importance of breastfeeding and physical aspects?
  • How strong are you physically, financially, emotionally, and ethically?
  • Is being parents of a child more valuable for you in comparison with having a genetic connection with your baby?
  • Are you afraid of having another failed IVF cycle?
  • Do fertility treatments and drugs cause severe and painful symptoms?
  • Are you obsessed about your fertility problems?
  • Do you have signs of stress and depression?

Answering the above questions will state what is right for you. While answering these questions, both of you sit together and be wise and honest. You will be happy with what you have and what you will have after making a decision.
